NewsTrack: SBNation

SBNation is “an online sports media brand” whose aim is to inform readers about the ins and outs of the sports world. It is written by fans for fans. This is not to say that it is not professional. There are good citations, external links, and sources to back their assertions. While some of the commentary is opinion I believe it helps a large portion of readers who may not be die hard about the topics to understand what is going on and help form an opinion of their own. They have over 2 million followers on Twitter, 302 million site views, and a following consisting primarily of men ages 18-34.

I am critical of my personal sports teams- the Celtics for one- and tend to find fault in the everyday analysis of the team. However, on SBNations’ blog of the C’s I found it to be different than what someone would find in the Globe. There is a colloquial verbiage and passion that adds some spice to the conversation. It may not be as professional in that sense but the analysis is. Although I do not particularly like Jerebko I did like there thoughts on him. Here’s the article I’m talking about.http://www.celticsblog.com/2016/1/25/10825550/boston-celtics-jared-sullinger-marcus-smart-jonas-jerebko-role-players-getting-better .

There are also long-form features for those more acquired to the taste of lengthy articles in their preferred news soup. So far their video content is accessible and follows exactly the point the writer is trying to make. They site possess a theme called GameThreads which allows readers to take an active role during their favorite teams’ games when they happen.

They are powered by Vox Media which has offices all over the US in cities: Chicago, DC, New York, and San Fransisco. They have their own creative department which seems to be how the majority of their advertisements get processed. As an entire network of Vox Media outlets – Curbed, Polygon, The Verge, and others – they are hiring for their growing business.

This info can all be found on their About SBNation section.

Bio 304

yaaaaaaMy name is Anthony Jordan. I am a junior at Boston University studying journalism. I plan on concentrating in English, but have not made set plans yet. I am a huge sports fanatic and follow my hometown teams with unflappable faith. I play basketball and soccer with friends when I can. I am from South Shore Massachusetts, Hanover; however, I live in Allston right now right next to Boston. I enjoy listening to the radio or tv in the background while I do work. It is an added part to my routine I adopted from my sister who is constantly watching old movies as she brings her work from the office to home. At times the background noise can be too much so I prefer silence to take over. The real world is not like that though. There is constantly a buzz of white noise competing for your attention, in no particular direction, and that is tough to toss from your head. Maybe that’s just me. I have two parents, two brothers, along with my sister, and two cats, all providing legs for me to stand on. Their support is everything. It is their strong voices I want to emulate through a microphone for others. I believe honesty and passion are the energy sources for that instrument.

Go Sox, Celtics, Pats and B’s… even the Revolution although they broke my heart five times. Sooo yeah ok cool.
